This guide explains the steps customers must follow if equipment is damaged by a power surge while connected to a surge suppressor manufactured by RAB Design Lighting Inc..
Surge Suppressor Insurance Coverage Process
Step 1: Confirm Eligibility
Before submitting a claim, please ensure the following requirements are met:
You Must Have Active Property Insurance
The damaged equipment must have been covered under a valid property insurance policy at the time of the power surge.
You Must File a Claim with Your Insurance Provider First
Customers are required to report the incident to their property insurance provider and complete the insurance claim process before contacting RAB Design Lighting Inc.
Obtain the Insurance Claim Decision
Your insurance provider must confirm:
- The amount covered under the policy
- Any remaining unpaid amount related to the damage
Important
Surge insurance coverage as provided by RAB Design Lighting Inc. will only be provided to customers who have purchased a RAB surge suppressor, filed an insurance claim with their insurance provider, and obtained approval for that insurance claim.
Step 2: Understand What RAB Design Lighting Inc. May Cover
After the insurance claim has been completed:
- If your insurance provider covers only part of the damage, RAB Design Lighting Inc. may cover the remaining balance.
- Coverage is available only if inspection confirms that the damage was caused by the surge suppressor device.
- The maximum reimbursement amount is up to $7,000.
- The final reimbursement amount depends on:
- The total verified claim amount
- The amount already paid by the insurance provider
- Inspection findings
Step 3: Gather Required Documents
To begin the claim review process, customers must submit the following:
Required Documents:
- Insurance claim approval letter showing the amount covered by the insurance provider
- Original sales receipt for the damaged equipment
- Photos of the damaged equipment clearly showing the model number or serial number
- Photos of the installed surge suppressor and associated components
Additional Inspection Requirement
RAB Design Lighting Inc. may require customers to send the ACD box in question and/or the surge suppressor device to RAB Design Lighting Inc. for technical inspection and evaluation. The customer will be responsible for the shipping charges.
Step 4: Claim Review and Inspection
Once all documents are received and the inspection is completed (if required), RAB Design Lighting Inc. will review the claim.
If:
- No insurance claim is filed, or
- The equipment was not covered under active property insurance, then surge coverage from RAB Design Lighting Inc. will not apply.
Step 5: Reimbursement
Once the submission has been approved and it has been determined that the surge suppressor did not perform as required, RAB Design Lighting Inc. will reimburse the eligible claim amount, net of any insurance proceeds received by the customer, up to a maximum of $7,000. RAB Design Lighting Inc. will mail a cheque within 30 days of approval to the mailing address provided by the customer during the claim process.
